The Modern Bar Room Helps Me Grow a Year Older

The other day, for my birthday, my friends suggested The Modern Bar room for pre-dinner drinks and appetizers. It was a perfect setting and the small plates menu lent itself to our purpose.

Young Pea Salad with sicilian pistachios and ricotta salata
A well-portioned light salad with a lemony touch.

Saffron Tagliatelle with cider braised rabbit, wild mushrooms and baby zucchini
This was so tasty it leads me to believe it must've been cooked with lots of butter. The rabbit was thinly sliced, not very gamey and almost hard to tell apart from the mushrooms. The zucchini added a dash of brightness and helped put the summer back into what could have seemed like a season-changing dish.

Saffron Pistachio custard
A pit stop at Shake Shack later in the night seemed to be a throwback to the earlier hours of my evening combining ingredients from the Modern appetizers! Unfortunately, the flavor was disappointing, just too meek. I would never have been able to detect saffron in this but for the custard's name. The pistachio was minimally evident and the custard almost tasted slightly minty. Nothing too interesting here.
